SPOT ILLUSTRATIONS FOR MANCHESTER URBAN DIGGERS (MUD)

PHYSICAL DEGREE SHOW PROPOSAL
I knew I wanted to create something with a more interactive element for when we have a physical degree sow next year. I got a lot of positive feedback about my 'flower heads' and flower based figures and thought this could be a good starting point to work from. My concept is to create either a freestanding wooden photo stand in, allowing people to put their own faces into the artwork. Or the same idea on a headpiece idea, to allow people to move around too. This is something I think would work well in a degree show environment, and engage multiple age groups, as well as working well in an outdoor space too.

To go alongside this, it would be nice to have a collection of products as a memento that people could take away with them or purchase. My thoughts are to include two products: a print or postcard, and 'Planter People' as well as a business card design featuring artwork that people can take with them for free.
Planter People is a product that encourages people to grow wildflowers and herbs. Specifically aimed at small, urban spaces (or lack of) they are designed to be used in window boxes or pots for people inexperienced with gardening.
A small wooden gardening figure is attached to two plantable sticks, each with a variety of seeds adhered to the bottom of the stick with eco-friendly, water soluble adhesive. Upon watering, the seeds detach from their wooden stick and are able to germinate in the soil. Lines on the product indicate how far to push it into the soil for best results.
As the seeds grow and develop, the figure is surrounded, giving the appearance of a tiny gardening figure tending to their plants.

MURAL PROPOSAL FOR THE PROTON BEAM THERAPY UNIT
THE CHRISTIE X TIM BACON FOUNDATION
In the same capacity that each aspect of an ecosystem works in harmony, so do the researchers, technicians, medical and hospital staff etc. for patient care and recovery. My initial design uses the metaphor of environment and nature as a metaphor for the relationship between treatment, staff and patients; as well as being a visual escape.
The vibrancy of the colours against the dark background reflects the hope and light that can still be found in the people who fight against cancer; from patients, to staff, and family and friends.
Integrated elements of ecclesiastical design, seen in architecture such as Manchester Cathedral, as well as in the protest banners for the suffragette movement, are also featured in motifs and flourishes.
The design now needs to be reworked after feedback from the foundation, to replace the black background with something more uplifting. The basic premise and imagery will remain largely similar for the next proposal but with a change of colour palette more aligned with the TBF and the Christies's wishes.
